It seems that computer screens and social media have become part of our daily lives. We use them to stay in touch via email or text, we use them for a virtual social connection and quite often we use them for business. Having profiles on multiple platforms is commonplace. But, are our profiles sending the right message?
It seems many spend a lot of time crafting the perfect profile, bio or resume online. Great attention to detail is spent on every word and paragraph to paint the perfect picture of ourselves and our place in the business community but alas, many neglect the one thing that will first capture people’s attention and attract them to your brand: a profile photo.
Your profile photo is people’s first impression of you. It can both attract and repel work. It makes what you have to say more credible because you attach your name and likeness to it.
For a good profile image:
- Dress well. Do not use busy patterns or complicated clothing. Keep it simple.
- Smile, preferably with teeth. It makes you approachable & someone people want to work with.
- Exemplify your brand. Use colors and styles that are a good representation of yourself.
- Use a well-lit image. People want to see you clearly.
- Keep the background simple. You want the focus on you, not your surroundings.
- Finally, invest in a professional image. It is as important as your resume. If you want to look like the professional that we all know you are, go to an expert.
